Hey, this isn't so bad! I could see myself doing this again.

The anticipation of your first night ride is something like diving with sharks; you've heard of people doing it but you aren't quite sure why anyone would subject themselves to that kind of fear. But after you take that first leap into the deep, it begins to make sense and you tell yourself, “Hey, this isn't so bad! I could see myself doing this again.” Upon climbing back aboard with all your limbs, you become an advocate of the experience to anyone who will listen.
Whoa. This is awesome, I'm definitely going to be doing this again.
Leading up to my first night ride, I had serious jitters. I could feel the anxiety in my knuckles. I was expecting a Blair Witch Project like ride with mysterious forest creatures jumping out from behind trees or waiting to greet me around the next turn. But once I turned on my Monteer 8000s on my handlebars and the Ray 2600 on my helmet, I realized I could see every root in front of me and on all sides. Surprisingly, I actually got a PR on my favorite local trail, but I may need to chalk that up to a Strava recording error and not some superpower that comes out at night on a mountain bike. As I began my first descent, I found myself saying, “Whoa. This is awesome, I'm definitely going to be doing this again.” And I became an advocate.
Riding with a group of die hard mountain bikers led to some serious grins
Magicshine recently hosted a night ride with the Handlebar Bike Shop team from Ashland, OR and found a group of likeminded individuals eager to try their first night ride. Experiencing this kind of ride is enjoyable by yourself (though probably not recommended), but doing it with a group of die hard mountain bikers led to some serious grins. To see a group of fifteen riders snaking down the side of a mountain is almost surreal.
Everything was coming up so fast and you just really had to be in your toes.
After the event, the group gathered at a local brewery for a few cold ones. Team member Brandon K. had just purchased and used his first set of lights from Magicshine and said of the ride, “It was so awesome…Everything was coming up so fast and you just really had to be in your toes.” He accurately summarized one of the reasons riding at night is so enjoyable. It's fair to say we've found a few more advocates.
This is why we at Magicshine are so passionate about what we do. Who doesn't like getting our more often on their bike with friends and becoming a better rider?

We'd love to hear more about your experience with your first night ride. Tag us on social media with your photos and let us know why you ride at night.

If you haven't yet experienced a night ride, what are you waiting for? Take advantage of our great Holiday sales at Magicshine.com and get riding this winter.
