Leading up to my first night ride, I had serious jitters. I could feel the anxiety in my knuckles. I was expecting a Blair Witch Project like ride with mysterious forest creatures jumping out from behind trees or waiting to greet me around the next turn. But once I turned on my Monteer 8000s
on my handlebars and the Ray 2600
on my helmet, I realized I could see every root in front of me and on all sides. Surprisingly, I actually got a PR on my favorite local trail, but I may need to chalk that up to a Strava recording error and not some superpower that comes out at night on a mountain bike. As I began my first descent, I found myself saying, “Whoa. This is awesome, I'm definitely going to be doing this again.” And I became an advocate.
