Conclusion: This is a great premium tail light that most will love -
Among my 20+ bike lights, MagicShine SEEMEE is definitely among the best bike light brands. And this bike tail light is no exception, doesn't disappoint - a lot to like and in fact quite impressive: 400 Lumens *IS* so bright I can use this tail almost like a regular flash light. Diverse lighting modes, including ingenious floor lighting ("Optitracing" as MagicShine calls it) in a nice compact IPX6 form factor. Great build quality.

Personally, however, just wished it had a regular Garmin/Wahoo mount instead of smaller proprietary mount, since I already have multiple existing lights and standardized on Garmin mount. This could have been a simpler, more compatible addition instead of attaching another (albeit a small silicon band) mount.

Pros:
- Very bright (up to 400 Lumens) with a variety of light modes - great functionality
- Ingenious/interesting "Optitracing Light" (Pic.5, 7) - bottom light that lights up area around your rear wheel below it
- Looong battery life & USB-C charging
- Highly compact form factor, light, simple installation
- Great build quality w/IPX6

Cons:
- uses a proprietary smaller mount (Pic.6: Comparison against Garmin Varia) Personally, own/ride multiple bikes but only one Varia, so would have loved this light to take its place on another bike.
No issue if you're going to use this light exclusively though.

Neutral:
- Price is a bit more than some unknown brands, but you get premium product with good build quality & functions from trustworthy brand

This light is incredibly bright, especially for it's compact size. Aluminum body, not plastic is great. I appreciate the USB-C charging (and included cable) and the Garmin-style mount -- although, note that the mount is about 1/2 the size of a standard Garmin-style mount (see photo for comparison). Included mounting hardware is simple to install. It has an "optiracing light" which is a small dome on the bottom of the unit that pulses in the Low and High modes (see video). I appreciate the Brake Warning Function -- it gets brighter as you slow down. I also (mostly) appreciate Transport Mode -- it will automatically shut off after 5 min of non-movement and will automatically turn on when moving. The bummer here is that the light doesn't pair to a head unit, so you can't set it to automatically turn on when you begin a ride...thus, just loading the bike in the car, moving the light to charge it, etc... will cause it to turn on. Also, note that the instructions are a bit confusing (see photo). Where it says to "single-click and hold," you have to actually click twice, holding that second click of the button. All in all, I like the safety of such a bright light and the battery-saving functionality of it

Got the 400 because it connects to the remote that I have that came with the Hori 1300. Syncs perfectly with my lights now and my goodness it is bright. Be careful when it's on High Flash mode. Momentarily blinded when I was testing. Battery lasts longer than anything I have owned even on non-eco mode. Speaking of which, eco mode is only when you really need to save on battery. Very low visibility on that mode. Rather have it on flash than eco mode. Got the Black Friday discount so I got it at a fair deal. LOVE the pulsating, dowfacing 360 degree light!

This review pertains to the "SEEMEE 300/400 Bike Taillight, 300/400 Lumen Bike Tail Light, 360 Visible Smart Brake Sensor IPX6 Waterproof Rear Bike Light for Night Riding" from Magicshine. Initially, it is evident that this is a meticulously engineered, high-quality bicycle rear light, offering remote control functionality and both Bluetooth and Ant+ connectivity. Potentially due to the extensive features integrated into this device, I occasionally encountered difficulty in precisely identifying the active lighting modes. However, integrating it with my Garmin 1050 head unit effectively resolved these issues, streamlining the incorporation of this light into my bicycle's digital environment.

The bright orange box for this Magicshine SEEMEE 400 rear light can't really be missed, a characteristic of the light itself when it's powered on.

The light comes with two styles of mount, into which the light is twisted to clamp, rather like modern GPS head units, only the base for these is smaller. There is a band mount that fits around a seatpost and a saddle rail mount that fits around a... saddle rail and is secured with zip ties. In my opinion most things that require the customer to apply zip ties are under-designed or made to a price, so I'll reserve judgement on that bracket. The seatpost one looks fine. The light itself doesn't have a lanyard point, which is a shame because it's quite expensive to lose on the ride.

It's a chunky old thing and isn't really suitable for affixing to clothing, racks, etc. because the design is too boxy. Applications for bags & clothing need to be flatter with clips or hook mountings.

The instructions could be improved. Not only do they not start at page one, because they are multi-lingual, matching up with where a subsequent page picks up from the previous one is not obvious. There is also no explanation as to how to get the light into BT/ANT+ connection mode for connection to a GPS head unit - a single click of the power button (its only button) then hold for 3 seconds will illuminate the power switch in blue, you're welcome.

I've included a video clip where I start the Garmin and the light comes on :)
The faffing about when I stop the Garmin is me deleting the track, but the result is the same; when the ride finishes, the light automatically goes off :)

The light has a variety of modes and the function to increase brightness when braking. It also has a very long battery light, with a reserve get-you-home low power mode when the battery is low, which is way better than just cutting out!

If you're after a long lived light for Audax, and/or one that you just fit and forget and let the bike computer control, this is a great candidate. Once you've mastered the modes.

This tail light is pretty nice but Im not sure the features justify the price. 400 lumens is very bright for a tail light and Im inclined to think the 300 lm version is more than sufficient but even that is pretty pricey for what it does.

The 400 has the peloton sync and headlight sync features but I cant test it. Im not sure what benefit there is to pairing it with a bike computer as it offers no radar functionality. At first I thought for the price it would have some added smart features like radar.

My first light was DOA as it would not charge up or power up. The second one seems to be working.

The mounts are pretty standard and you can run this on two bikes with the included seat rail mount and seat post mount.

Compared to all of the tail lights I have this one is overpriced for the feature set as you can get a similarly bright single LED light for a lot less money.

This bike tail light is amazing. Easy to install, use, and it is very durable.

The lights are very bright and easy to see. They come with multiple types of connectors to allow you to mount them easily. I have mine mounted on my bike seat post.

I really love the stopping feature. As you slow down or stop the lights come on brighter. Amazing.

It also has the ability to sync with a front light if your front light supports FTR Lightsync System. My front light does not, but that is a really nice feature.

You can also link it up with an ANT+ bike computer. Another nice feature.

It has long battery life and charges with USB C.

This light has so many great features and functionality, is easy to use, and is very bright to keep you safe while biking in the dark. I highly recommend.

Much of my riding is during the dark hours, so I require lights that are dependable and provide excellent nighttime illumination and visibility. Ive been using Magicshine SEEMEE 300s as my primary tail lights for the past couple years. So I was very interested to give the new SEEMEE 400 a try. The first one I received was DOA. It would not hold a charge and I never got it to light up at all. I contacted Magicshine for advice but never received a response. Fortunately, I was able to return it to Amazon and a working replacement arrived a couple days later.

Outwardly, the SEEMEE 400 is nearly identical to the SEEMEE 300. The lens and aluminum case are the same. Only the model number printed on the side is different. When turned on and viewed side-by-side, you can see that the 400 is a bit brighter. The design of both of these lights provides excellent 360-degree visibility for nighttime riding. The lens bezel is transparent, providing about 270 degrees of direct visibility. And there is a very bright LED emitter on the bottom that projects a downward beam to illuminate the road surface and is visible for a full 360 degrees.

Magicshine rates the runtime for the 400 as 8.5 hours on the HIGH setting. But if you read the fine print, that is measured at 28C (77F) which is a great temperature for batteries, but not a typical night-time temperature in most of the world for most of the year. You can expect the runtime of the 400 to be significantly shorter in cold weather. My initial road-tests were in the 30F-40F temperature range, and the light did last for more than 2.5 hours which is good enough for my purposes. But there is no way to tell how much of a charge remained after those rides. Winter is coming and it is anyones guess what runtime can be expected in colder temperatures. In my experience, LiPo cells degrade to about 30-50% of their rated capacity at temperatures below 30F.

Battery status on these lights is limited to an almost dead indication when the light on the power button turns red. In practice, that is useless since you cant see it while you are riding. What would be useful is a real battery level indicator so you could check the state of the battery before heading out for a 2+ hour commute. There are $10 taillights that have digital charge level displays. At this price-point, the SEEMEE 400 should have one as well.

Bottom line: The SEEMEE 400 lacks a useful battery status display. And customer service appears to be non-existent. However, this taillight does provide excellent 360-degree nighttime visibility and flexible mounting options. It is also solidly constructed and weatherproof. For those reasons, it remains my first choice as a primary taillight for nighttime riding safety. (but I always carry a fully charged backup!). A real battery status display and a real customer service department would make this a 5-star product.

P
PS

Ive always liked MagicShine products, and this one just confirmed why. The Taillight is way more advanced than what I really need, but its awesome to have. I mostly ride around the neighborhood with my kids, and since our streets arent well lit, I wanted something reliable and bright. This thing is a powerhouse. If I could I would get some for my kids too but these are expensive compared to cheap ones on Amazon. Although, the cheap one, you have to replace every year, but these are build to last, and they are really for professionals. Different mode options, great size and expensive. It is not very easy to install it, unless you read the instruction and then it will be very easy and its just few clicks on the more. The light output is incredible and it looks very nice. Pairing with remote took about 30 seconds and now my headlight from MagicShine is in sync with my taillight. Very happy to know that these options are available nowadays.

I own several MagicShine headlights and tailights and have rarely been disappointed with them. The product in this review is the SeeMee 400 taillight. Its bright. REALLY bright. There are multiple modes with most triggering just the rear facing LEDs. There are three modes that also include the downward facing 'halo' LED. All 3 modes with the downward facing LED on also utilize the rearward facing one (no downward only mode).

The brightest mode slowly pulses the rearward LED from medium to bright. and keeps the halo constant. The 'Low' mode pulses the halo (as seen in the attached video) while keeping the rearward constant at Medium.

Several other modes flash the rearward LED in different patterns sometimes using the center LEDs and sometimes the outward ones. All in all, there are about 7 modes. I actually would have liked if there were more that combined the halo with a pulsing rearward mode.

Regardless, whatever you choose, any LED, at any level or pulse, will be plenty bright. The main function of a taillight is to make one visible and it is going to do that in spades. Unfortunately I also expect many of these modes will irritate some drivers.

This unit is supposed to pair with a compatible headlight handlebar control. I didn't test that, but on a different bike I have another SeeMee taillight which paired and syncs perfectly with the headlight.

Charging is via USB-C and it charges at 5+ watts. This was out of the box which I suspect was near full. It may charge quicker at lower battery settings.

This is another nifty product by MagicShine. If you want THE brightest taillight out there, this is the one to get.

Another MagicShine home run!! When the SeeMee200 came out I was very interested and saw several reviews about it, this led me down the path of MagicShine lights. I have bought their headlights and tail lights. This is the second or third product I have been able to review via the Vine program. All of the lights, bought or tested, have been outstanding.

MagicShine is my Go-To brand for bike lights because of the quality and value for money. This SeeMee 400 is outstanding. It is noticeably brighter than the 200, which is a great light in its own right. The settings are fairly easy to work out, the light fully charged inside 3hrs. I have had amazing experience with the run times matching the MagicShine estimates and fully expect the 19hrs for both lights on low to be accurate.

Long-story-short, MagicShine has another winner on their hands. I have loved the headlights, and taillights I have already been using, and this SeeMee 400 will join the rotation. "See more, Do better" a very enthusiastic 5-stars from me.

I really wanted to like this light as i have a mgic shine front light with remote so this would have made a fine addition.

Positives

Really well built , probably one of the best built rear lights i have .
Loads of lighting modes including a bright perimeter LED ring that can pulse or stay lit, two main ultra bright red LED's and also a down facing red LED that lights up the back wheel, superb!!
The rear angle on the seat post is correct and very secure
USB-C charging
Probably the brightest and most traffic safe rear light ive used.

Not so great

It states i can use the Magicshine remote , i thought great ill pair it my my exisiting MJ-6508 that i use with my Magic Shine front light, it will not pair to that remote. Must be a compatibility issue so very poor that it cant work with existing Magicshine remotes, very recent one at that. The instructions state MJ-6558 for reference as the optional controller.
It has some heft to if, obviously due to the extra features, output and battery life but might not be best place on a weight weeny bike, fine on my full suspension bike though
A bit pricey but its a nice bit of kit.
The app is pretty pointless.
